Rating

Ivan Vazov’s home-museum rises gloriously amid the multi-storied buildings in the centre of Sofia, on the corner of G. S. Rakovski Str and Iv. Vazov Str; unique in its presence; a centre of spirituality; a place loved and held dear by every Bulgarian. Five years after Vazov’s death, on November 26 1926, the first Bulgarian literary museum was officially unveiled. It was administratively subordinated to the National Literature Museum in Sofia.

Ivan Vazov’s house was built in 1895. Here is where the writer spent most of his time living and working. Now, one of the rooms on the first floor holds an artistic-documentary exhibition which, among other things, shows some of the unique presents and awards the national poet received for two of his anniversaries – in 1895 and in 1920.

On the second floor visitors can see Ivan Vazov’s study with his working desk and personal library as well as with personal belongings, paintings, portraits and objects that contribute to the unique spiritual atmosphere of this place. The museum also shows the writer’s dining room, study and bedroom.
